Shows

Annie has created two solo shows that combine comedy, original music, and provocative issues. They are very simple to produce: a piano (or keyboard) and a few basic pieces of furniture will do. Each show runs close to 90 minutes, but shorter versions are available. Both shows were directed by Judy Chaikin.

YENTA UNPLUGGED (Excuse Me, I’m Talking!)

This solo extravaganza is a sophisticated 90-minute celebration of womanhood, from the Bronx to Beverly Hills.

Through hilarious and often poignant tales and songs, Korzen (Doris Klompus on Seinfeld) creates 40 characters to serve up the comical trials and tribulations of being female and Jewish in America.

But the universality of her stories of courtship, career, marriage and motherhood, of family and friendship also tell what it’s like growing up female and ____________ (fill in the blank with any ethnicity.)

Brimming over with passion, humor and irony, Korzen is a Jackie Mason with soul who takes us on an odyssey that slices through tired stereotypes, creating an equal-opportunity entertainment!

Over 5,000 years in the making, YENTA UNPLUGGED has played to sold-out houses in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Scandinavia.

SYNOPSIS

Annie is “too Jewish.” People see her as a stereotype. Total strangers greet her by speaking in a Yiddish accent. The Jewish men she admires are interested only in distinctly un-Jewish women. She has to put up with JAP jokes, and other popular put-downs.

As Annie examines common caricatures like “The Doting Mother” and The Nagging Wife,” she finds that, rather than apologize, she has a lot to celebrate. And she discovers a joyful connection not just with Jewish women, but with people of all cultural backgrounds.

Mostly funny, sometimes serious, occasionally naughty: all of it scientifically calibrated to make you a better person!

SYNOPSIS

Annie can’t seem to keep her opinions to herself. Whether she is irritated by an obnoxious cell-phone user, or outraged by a comic’s put-down of Jewish women, Annie tends to speak her mind. This gets her into all kinds of trouble – especially with the men she wants to please. When her son starts planning his wedding, Annie finally learns when to keep her mouth shut – with a little help along the way from Søren Kierkegaard.
