BOOKS

I wrote and published a book.  Yay!  Another one should be coming soon.

“Annie Korzen is a force of nature. – hilarious, brilliant, and a true inspiration. I know better than to waste time doing anything other than taking her advice.”

Bargain Junkie: Living the Good Life on the Cheap
The market goes up, the market goes down. We’re in a boom, we’re in a recession. We’re told to “live richly,” we’re told to “spend cautiously.” None of this economic see-saw has ever affected me, since I’ve always been a thriftaholic. I had to be.  I grew up poor, and then chose the financially precarious life of a free-lance writer/actor. This book describes my life under the radar. With minimal cash flow, I’ve managed to have a lovely home, dress well, travel, educate my child, and – most importantly – eat out as often as possible. Bargain Junkie is a collection of funny stories and valuable tips on thrifty living. Thrifty: not cheap. As I explained when I was a guest on the Tavis Smiley Radio Hour, “cheap” is a rich person who’s a lousy tipper. That’s not me.

Here are some sample tips.
  • I had a mani/pedi done at a beauty school for seven bucks.
  •  I gave a neighbor an hour of public speaking coaching, in return for which she delivered a 5-course chicken dinner to my door with enough food to last the whole weekend.
  • Most thrift stores have dollar tag days.  I found a pair of Ralph Lauren black velvet evening trousers for a buck, which I wore to my son’s engagement party.
  • My garden consists almost entirely of free cuttings from friends.  I myself have given away enough agave to brew a case of tequila.
What my bargainista philosophy has not allowed me to do is to own a $150,000 Birkin crocodile and diamond bag, or even a measly low-end $9,000 Birkin bag. Somehow, I don’t feel I’ve missed much. I’m perfectly happy with my lightweight, washable, silver Sportsac. I got it brand new on eBay for twelve bucks.
